Prepairing Active Directory for Exchange 2007
Active directory is the backbone of an Exchange 2007 deployment.
A global catolog server most be deployed in all sites in which Exchange is deployed
Active directory stores almost all of the Exchange 2007 configuration.
Exchange 2007 requirments
Exchange 2007 requires a 64 bit processor and a 64 bit version of windows server 2003 or later

Exchange server 2007 roles
When deciding what roles to deploy remember each active directory site in which clients will access exchange resources requires at least one mail box server a hub transport server and a client access server
Edge Transport Role
Edge transport servers route messages between the interent and your Echange oranization.
Edge transport servers are placed on the perimeter network or DMZ zone between the firwall and internal network
Hub Transport Roll
The Hub transport routes trafic between active directory sites
Exchange servers asigned the Hubtransport roles are members of active directory and connested to the protected network.ervers with the hub transport role are simular to brudgehead servers in prior versions of exchange
client Acess Roll
The Client access role provide a gateway between clients and their mail boxes
A client connecting to outlook, Exchange Activesync, or Outlook web access (OWA) conect to the client server which then connect to the correct mailbox server.
MailBox Server Role
The Mailbox server role host mailboxes and public folders. Mailbox servers hold all message data. There needs to be a mailbox server role in each location where mail will be accessed.
Cluster mailbox roles
Cluster mailbox servers provide high avalibilty through the use of Windows server 2003 and 2008 clustering.
